Saw a charge of $1.13 on my credit card statement from Wimac Tel Calgary. Not sure why it's there since I don't have an account with them. I recently opened a new account with SimplyConnect Inc. I will contact them and/or my bank to get to the bottom of this.
I had a similar issue after making a credit card call from a pay phone at Vancouver Airport. A 22 second call (I left a message) cost me $11.27 because I used my credit card. WIMAC must have the contract to operate the payphones there. When I phoned WIMAC (1-888-476-0881) they told me there was some sort of 'base charge' when using credit cards on their pay-phones. Highway robbery if you ask me - Will never use this form of communication again....
I had 2 charges related to this company. Don't use your credit card in a pay phone at Toronto Airport!
I used my credit card to make a telephone call at Awenda Provincial Park as I forgot to bring my charger for cell phone and it cost me $14.77 for a very short call.
Exactly what it is. Payphone in Toronto Airport with credit card. That 2 minute call cost me almost $17.00.
Credit card charge for a short (30 second) long distance call in rural Quebec to a phone 25 miles away: $15.02.
They also charged me for 5 times, I am a land line. and the call is made at midnight, 12:03 am to 1:00 am. at that time, our office is closed for sure. (we open 9 am to 8 pm, sometimes to 9 pm, we are located in a mall, the mall is not access during 11:00 pm-5:00 am), They said our landline call 778 806 5233.
we are at Vancouver. BC
On Feb. 10, 2022. At CHUS hospital in Sherbrooke, QC. It is a University hospital. When done with the neurologist, I used a pay phone to contact my lift so that they can come and get me. Took the phone off the cradle, entered my debit card, took it out then proceeded to dial the number. The call did not go through, did ring or whatever. I did this a couple of times later on, using the same pay phone unit, resulting in the same outcome. For each of these calls that, ended up nowhere, my bank statement, which I checked the following day before going grocery shopping, showed that I was charged $13.23 for each of these non-calls. All in all, it represents about $40. However, been retired with very (very) low income, grocery shopping has to wait a week or so. I presume that other people have had similar problems using the same pay phone that I did. Therefore, I contacted the University Hospital and informed them of the situation. My understanding is that they will most likely seas their business association with Wimactel.
